- Techniques of integration:
-Riemann sums and how to define integrals
-integration by parts and trig subs.
-Simple substitution is a MUST
(sample questions: try sections 5.2, 5.3)
- Applications of the Integral
- areas, volumes and lengths
-how to use derivatives and integrals to represent things in the real world
(sample questions: try sections 8.1, 8.2 and review pgs 481-486)
- Ways of Solving Differential Equations
-the basic ideas of separation of variables and using initial conditions
(sample questions: try sections 11.1, 11.2, 11.4)
- Applications of Differential Equations
-populations, heating cooling or exponential growth/decay
-slope fields
(sample questions: try sections 11.5 - 11.7 and review pgs 665-660, Omit 11.3, 11.8,11.9)
- Infinite Series and Convergence Tests
-understanding of what convergence entails
-integral and comparison (squeeze theorem) tests
-Taylor and binomial expansions
(sample questions: try sections 9.1-9.5, 10.1 - 10.3, and review pgs 529-532 and 578 - 581, Omit 10.4, 10.5)
Examp Preparation Suggestions:
- form a study group with 2 other people
- assign 5 topics each (one from each section above) and have
the person in your group explain that to the rest of the group.
- always start from the "big picture" - how do you recognize
integral subs and methods, what is an integral (explain in words and pictures),
what is a differential equation and a slope field etc...
- review your homework and midterms together
