Midterm #1 Blueprint

I can't cover everything in the 1 hour we have! So, the midterm will test you on these areas:

1. Calculus with Parametric Curves: (11.2, 11.4): Make sure that you spend extra time on these sections. Sample problems: 11.2: 13, 29, 43, 47; 11.4: 3, 19, 31, 47
2. Power Series: (12.9, - 12.12): Make sure that you understand how to use the Taylor series and how to apply it. This also includes the binomial series as a special and useful "subset" of the Taylor series. Sample problems: 12.9: 9, 23, 33; 12.10: 7, 25, 43; 12.11: 5, 15, 19: 12.12: 9, 29, 33, 35
3. Vectors, Lines and Planes: (13.2, 13.3, 13.4,13.5): Make sure that you know how to work with vectors (add, subtract, dot and cross products etc) and how to apply this knowledge to the mathematics of lines and planes. Sample Problems: 13.2:5, 15,21, 29, 33; 13.3: 7, 15, 23, 35, 53; 13.4: 5, 13, 31, 43; 13.5:3, 7, 15, 21, 27, 51, 61

Tips:

• spend time reviewing everything that we have done and then concentrate on the areas listed above
• try the sample questions - work in a group if at all possible
• make sure that you concentrate on writing complete and well reasoned solutions. Even a well written but partially correct solution is better than a poorly reasoned or unsupported answer (even if correct!)
