Math 300
Midterm #2 Blueprint
I can't cover everything in the 1 hour we have! So, the midterm
will test you on these areas:
- Vector Functions : (14.1,
14.2,14.3,14.4): Make sure that you spend extra time on these sections. You
need to know how to find and arc length and a curvature. Do not worry about
the osculating plane or torsion. Sample
problems: 14.2:
5,13,31,37; 14.3:5,9,15,19,37,55, 14.4:
5, 9,13, 31,39
- Partial Derivatives : (15.1, - 15.5): Make
sure that you understand how to use partial derivatives and what they mean
geometrically You also need to understand limits but may ignore the delta-epsilon
defintion that we looked at briefly. . Sample
problems: 15.1:
4, 9, 17,53-58; 15.2: 7, 13,21, 25; 15.3:
5, 15, 19,47,69,81: 15.4: 3,5,9, 15, 15.5:
3,5,9, 15,17,48
Tips:
- spend time reviewing everything that we have done and then
concentrate on the areas listed above
- try the sample questions - work in a group if at all possible
- make sure that you concentrate on writing complete and well
reasoned solutions. Even a well written but partially correct solution is
better than a poorly reasoned or unsupported answer (even if correct!)
